... but what a super day was had by all who attended.
The committee and extra helpers arrived early to set up the Masonic Hall in Moonee Ponds, it looked great in time for members and guests to arrive. Many thanks to everyone who chipped in.
In no time at all two of our wonderfully efficient committee members, Alison Gardner and Heather Shepherd, were set up to hand out forms- sign you up- sell you a raffle ticket-give you a gift and send you in to the great hall to meet everyone else.
We were keen to intersperse the formal part of the meeting (the AGM proper) with a fun day for members and guests. In fact the formal AGM took just 30 minutes and we were able to welcome four new committee members to the team. Many thanks to Kim Bastiani, Lenora Jenkins, Fiona Lindsay and Sue Cheney for joining the committee. The previous committee has also been returned with minor changes to roles and those minutes will go up in the 'members only' section of the website soon.
We were all delighted by guest speaker Jan Frazer. Jan brought along many of her quilts from early to present day and it was great to hear of her quilt making journey first hand. It began when an 'unexpected visa issue' upset her plans to work in the USA many years ago. Her husband had taken a temporary position in Kentucky and Jan now found herself at a loose end...until she found a class at a quilt shop 😉
Jan showed us many quilts, and her style is diverse as the pictures show
Jan brought along several quilts which feature her newest passion, using Reece Scannell fabric panels as the starting point for creating beautiful quilts with design elements chosen from the panels.
As well we had some Show and Tell with plenty to see and enjoy and it was especially nice to see a small selection of Janet O'Dell's antique applique quilts.
All in all it was a lovely day of sharing and friendship with dreary 'formal business stuff' kept to an absolute minimum 🙂
Many thanks to all who came and made it a great success. And especially thanks to Maureen Mackie for taking photo's xx Maureen 🙂
See you soon and happy stitching.
Margaret.
