Come and meet Carolyn and see her wonderful appliquéd quilts,  she is our Guest Speaker at the upcoming Applique-In to be held on the 7th October in Surry Hills, Melbourne.   Details? click on link for the flyer or see website calendar.  We'd love to see you there. Applique In FLYER OCT 2017 Sue had a chat with Carolyn and an excerpt is here for you to enjoy... Come along on the 7th October to hear more and of course 'See' her beautiful work How long have you been doing Applique? Not long, the first appliqué quilt I made was in January 2016 and I had previously made one small hand appliqué piece the year before. What drew you to appliqué? I love arranging small pieces of fabric into a cohesive design. What is your preferred type of Applique? So far I have only created pieces using the raw edge and the faux appliqué method, but I am intending to learn raw edge appliqué. Do you have a preferred range of fabrics to work with? I tended to lean towards very bright colourful fabrics, but recently I have been moving towards the softer, flowery fabric ranges.     How did you feel when your quilts won so many awards at the recent quilt show? What were the awards for? I was overwhelmed to receive so many awards at showcase; I certainly did not expect it, especially in the Applique section where there were so many amazing quilts. I received a first in the modern quilting section,  a runners up in the innovative section and a second highly commended in the appliqué section. Where do you see your appliqué and quilting in the next 5-10 years Interesting question and I have no idea, I try to not to plan too far ahead, Each day I wake up with a passion for creating and I just want to enjoy each day that I get to do something that I love. Thanks Sue and Carolyn, see you on the 7th October       Save Read More

Easter Quilt Show

The Strathdale Quilters in Bendigo (Central Vic) are holding their Biennial Exhibition over the Easter weekend. This has always been an Easter tradition for me, so I'll be heading up there on Good Friday afternoon with Alison. The quilts will be stunning (I know, because they always are) I've just put the opening times and days up on the web calendar, so if you're looking to get out of the city over the weekend, do come and have a look.  The weather is always just perfect too (hope I haven't just jinxed that) Happy stitching and enjoy this special holiday Margaret :-)   Read More

Eltham Chapter

I have been away for two months and it was wonderful to see so many faces ( and bodies) around the tables. And some new ones ( hello Kylie and Heather) and returning one ( hello Mary) as well as all the habituées, and so many great show and tell (and nearly all appliqué) I won't be there on the next one , but thanks to Olga and Heather, the group is well looked after. Next meeting will be on the 29th April.   Read More

AGM and ‘Applique In’

Saturday 25th of Feb saw us all gathered in Melbourne for our annual AGM and a day of sewing, chatter and lots of fun. My goodness we have some talented members and some of the beautiful projects that were being worked on around the tables were stunning. It was a brilliant day and our thanks go out to all who attended and helped to make it such a fun occassion. There is nothing better than spending the day with a room full of happy, like minded people, sharing tips, ideas and the love of applique. Thanks also go to all the committee members for all their hard work and planning to make sure we had a great day and a special thank you to Irene Blanck as she leaves the committee after lots and lots of hard work and inspiration over the past few years...we are all sad to see you go but do hope we will still see you at lots of our gatherings. And not to forget thanks to our four fantastic and generous tutors, Margaret Mew, Veronique Diligent, Jo Lawrence and Ros Devine....four brilliant tutorials that really did prove 'you learn something new every day'. We had an amazing 'Show and Tell'.   We have a newsletter coming along soon with pics of the stunning quilts we saw on Saturday, but we couldn't resist just a little sneak peek here, from just a few of the dozens of talented members that brought their quilts along to share.  Keep your eyes out for our next newsletter for lots more pics of a really great day.   Read More
