Eltham Chapter

Nearly a full house at the last meeting, very nice to have Sue back. We were a bit quiet ( for a change) but we did achieve a lot. And as per usual some stunning show and tell , our visitor did impress with her beautiful cushion and leaves all in wool felt   From left to right, Chris and the sweetheart quilt, Sue and her liberty quilt as well as her appliqué circles, Olga and Heather's reverse applique, our visitor Pamela ( wool felt appliqué, stunning), Karen's gorgeous modern appliqué, Val's back basting learning curve, Frances Aunt's quilt ( still haven't started mine!) and my Birds Dance (wool felt). The talented Carolyn Murfitt

Come and meet Carolyn and see her wonderful appliquéd quilts,  she is our Guest Speaker at the upcoming Applique-In to be held on the 7th October in Surry Hills, Melbourne.   Details? click on link for the flyer or see website calendar.  We'd love to see you there. Applique In FLYER OCT 2017 Sue had a chat with Carolyn and an excerpt is here for you to enjoy... Come along on the 7th October to hear more and of course 'See' her beautiful work How long have you been doing Applique? Not long, the first appliqué quilt I made was in January 2016 and I had previously made one small hand appliqué piece the year before. What drew you to appliqué? I love arranging small pieces of fabric into a cohesive design. What is your preferred type of Applique? So far I have only created pieces using the raw edge and the faux appliqué method, but I am intending to learn raw edge appliqué. Do you have a preferred range of fabrics to work with? I tended to lean towards very bright colourful fabrics, but recently I have been moving towards the softer, flowery fabric ranges.     How did you feel when your quilts won so many awards at the recent quilt show? What were the awards for? I was overwhelmed to receive so many awards at showcase; I certainly did not expect it, especially in the Applique section where there were so many amazing quilts. I received a first in the modern quilting section,  a runners up in the innovative section and a second highly commended in the appliqué section. Where do you see your appliqué and quilting in the next 5-10 years Interesting question and I have no idea, I try to not to plan too far ahead, Each day I wake up with a passion for creating and I just want to enjoy each day that I get to do something that I love. Thanks Sue and Carolyn, see you on the 7th October       Save Read More

Easter Quilt Show

The Strathdale Quilters in Bendigo (Central Vic) are holding their Biennial Exhibition over the Easter weekend. This has always been an Easter tradition for me, so I'll be heading up there on Good Friday afternoon with Alison. The quilts will be stunning (I know, because they always are) I've just put the opening times and days up on the web calendar, so if you're looking to get out of the city over the weekend, do come and have a look.  The weather is always just perfect too (hope I haven't just jinxed that) Happy stitching and enjoy this special holiday Margaret :-)   Read More
